Playing Tips

The front nine features wide, flat fairways so you can be more aggressive off the tee, but keep drives toward the center to avoid the characteristic pot bunkers.

Pot bunkers are small and penal—favor controlled tee shots and consider laying up rather than risking a long approach from a tight lie.

Expect the back nine to be more hilly and scenic, and adjust club selection for elevation changes as thick rough or downhill/uphill lies can dramatically affect distance.

Bentgrass greens are generally smooth but can be subtly fast; take time to read the breaks and avoid going long on approach shots.

Hokkaido can be breezy at times, especially on more exposed holes on the back nine, so check wind direction and factor it into club choice.
