New Karumai Country Club is a beautiful 27-hole golf course located in Iwate Prefecture’s scenic Tohoku region. Designed by Mitsuaki Kobayashi, the course skillfully integrates birch, cherry, and nanakamado trees throughout its layout, offering a striking backdrop that changes with the seasons. Spring brings cherry blossoms fluttering in the breeze, summer highlights the white birch trunks against lush greens, and autumn showcases vivid red nanakamado berries. This hilly course with bentgrass greens provides a variety of strategic challenges across its multiple routes, inviting golfers to enjoy both the natural beauty and a rewarding playing experience. Playing Tips

The hilly, tree-lined layout rewards accurate tee shots—favor placement over pure distance on tighter holes to leave easier approach angles.

Expect variable wind on exposed ridges and elevated tees, so check conditions and club up or down conservatively for wind and elevation changes.

Bentgrass greens are well maintained but can be firm and quick in dry conditions, so focus on precise speed control and favor low-running approach shots when appropriate.

With three nine-hole routings, adjust strategy hole by hole and play conservatively when trees (birch, cherry, nanakamado) crowd the landing areas to avoid blocked recovery shots.

Wear soft spikes for stable footing on slopes and in damp conditions, and allow extra club on uphill approaches and take one fewer on long downhill shots.

The Tohoku hill climate brings cold, snowy winters, cool and sometimes windy springs, warm humid summers, and crisp, stable weather in autumn, with conditions able to change quickly on exposed ridges.

Best Season to Play

Late spring through autumn (roughly May–November) offers the best conditions—cherry blossoms in spring and vivid autumn foliage make for particularly enjoyable rounds, while winter brings heavy snow.
