About This Course

Shiga Country Club is a well-designed 18-hole course set on the rolling terrain of the Shigaraki Highlands in Shiga Prefecture. Surrounded by stands of cedar trees, the course offers a peaceful, garden-like atmosphere with minimal uphill shots. The front nine features notable holes such as the third, which requires a shot over a pond, and the fifth, known for its long green protected by bunkers. The back nine presents a challenging layout with its tricky short holes, highlighted by the twelfth, a beautifully landscaped hole resembling a traditional Japanese garden complete with a lantern and statue near the green. Soft spikes are recommended for play.

Favor accuracy over distance off the tee as cedar-lined fairways are unforgiving and ridge wind can occasionally affect longer shots.

The 3rd hole requires a careful tee shot to carry the pond, so consider a conservative club or layup if wind is in play.

On the 5th, a long green protected by bunkers makes a center-targeted approach the safest way to avoid difficult sand recoveries.

Back-nine short holes are deceptively tricky—take extra care with club selection and trajectory on approaches, especially into the 12th with garden-style hazards near the green.

Bentgrass greens can play firm and show subtle breaks, so read your lines carefully and expect moderate to brisk putting speeds when conditions are dry.
