About This Course

Horyuji Country Club, managed by PGM, is a scenic 18-hole golf course located in Nara Prefecture. The hilly layout features gentle terrain, making it enjoyable for players of all ages and skill levels. The front nine includes several longer holes that test both power and precision, while the back nine presents unique challenges such as a pond-hazard short hole and a long hole overlooking the Nara plain and the Horyuji Temple pagoda. Pine trees separate the fairways, minimizing out-of-bounds areas. The course uses bentgrass greens and requires soft spikes for play. Reservations are only accepted through Rakuten GORA rates.

Playing Tips

The front nine contains several long holes that reward controlled distance off the tee, so prioritize accuracy to keep the ball in play while using your length to gain advantage.

On the back nine, account for the pond-short hole and the exposed long hole overlooking the Nara plain—choose clubs conservatively and aim for safe areas when the wind is up.

Pine-lined fairways reduce OB risk but can funnel errant shots into tighter lies, so aim for the center of the fairway rather than forcing aggressive angles.

Bentgrass greens are generally smooth and receptive, so trust firm approach shots and take time to read subtle breaks on the putting surfaces.
