Tee Under Arms Drill

Keeps the arms and body connected throughout the driver swing. Helps prevent 'flying elbows' or an over-the-top downswing by encouraging a one-piece takeaway and downswing.

Equipment Needed

Driver
Golf ball
2 tees or a small towel

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Place a small object under each armpit (golf tees, a glove, or towel work well). Pin your upper arms lightly against your chest to hold them there.

2

Set up with the driver and make swings while keeping the objects pinned under your arms all the way from backswing to after impact.

3

If your arms separate too much from your body, the tees (or other objects) will fall, providing immediate feedback.

4

Practice by hitting balls with this drill. Focus on a rotation-driven swing where your torso leads and arms stay synchronized with your body turn.

Professional Endorsement

Many tour players practice with a towel under one or both arms to maintain connection (Ben Hogan famously emphasized keeping the arms connected). This drill is a staple in pro training sessions for syncing arms and body.
