Step-by-Step Instructions
Take an alignment stick (or a golf club) and thread it through the belt loops of your pants so that it sticks out on either side of your hips.
Set up to a tee or ball with your driver as usual. As you swing, focus on turning your hips — the stick will show how much rotation you achieve.
On the backswing, try to turn your hips at least 45 degrees (the stick will now point somewhat behind you).
Initiate the downswing with a slight shift toward the target, then rotate your hips through. The alignment stick should unwind and point left of the target (for right-handers) after impact. This drill forces an improved hip turn and weight shift, adding power.
Start slowly to get used to swinging with the stick. Do not hit full shots until comfortable. When you remove the stick, try to replicate the same hip turn feel in your normal drives.
