About This Course

Nagaoka Country Club, established in 1966 and designed by Osamu Ueda and Isuke Izumi, is a 27-hole forest course located in Nagaoka, Niigata. The club features three distinct nine-hole courses: the East and West courses are flat woodland layouts that gradually increase in difficulty, while the South course offers more elevation changes and requires precise shots due to out-of-bounds areas. Known for its challenging holes, such as the long fifth on the East course and the demanding eighth on the West, it hosted the 1996 Japan Women’s Open. The course uses bentgrass greens and permits only soft spikes, providing a natural yet testing golf experience.

East and West nines are tree-lined and relatively flat so prioritize accuracy off the tee over trying to overpower the course.

The long 5th on the East demands distance and careful course management, so consider laying up to a comfortable approach yardage.

The West 8th is a demanding hole with narrow landing areas, so favor a controlled tee shot rather than a risky long drive.

The South course has notable elevation changes and out-of-bounds sections that penalize wayward shots, so choose clubs for precision, not just distance.

Bentgrass greens are well maintained and can be fast with subtle undulations, so spend time reading breaks and control spin on approach shots.
