The course is very exposed so always factor in wind direction and strength when choosing clubs and aim points.

On this high-plateau links-style layout, favor low, running shots that use the firm fairways instead of trying to fly every approach.

Allow for significant roll on tee and fairway shots because firm, fast turf can add yardage to drives and long irons.

Bentgrass greens are often quick with subtle contours, so prioritize speed control and avoid aggressive line-setting putts.

Dress in layers and be prepared for sudden temperature drops and gusty conditions throughout the round.

Wakkanai is exposed to the Soya Strait so expect frequent strong and shifting sea winds, cool temperatures even in summer, occasional fog or low clouds in spring and early summer, and long snowy, freezing winters that limit the playing season.

The short, clear-sky summer window from late June through August (especially July) is the best time to play for milder temperatures and the clearest views, while the course is generally closed or snow-covered in winter.
