Account for elevation changes when selecting clubs—many approaches play longer or shorter than the card yardage due to uphill and downhill lies.

Treat holes with water hazards conservatively and aim for safe landing areas to avoid penalty strokes and difficult recovery shots.

Be aware of seasonal green behavior: Bermudagrass in the warm months can show grain and run faster, while Bentgrass in cooler periods will be softer and more receptive to approach shots.
