Kasumigaseki Country Club, established in 1929 in Saitama, is one of Japan’s most prestigious golf venues featuring 36 holes across two courses. Renowned designers like Charles H. Alison and Seiichi Inoue have contributed to its layout, creating challenging and iconic features such as the famous “Alison bunkers.” The club gained international fame by hosting Japan’s first major golf event, the 1957 Canada Cup, which helped spark a nationwide golf boom. Over the years, it has hosted numerous national championships and underwent a major renovation of the East Course in 2016 by Tom Fazio and his son. It remains a favorite destination for serious golfers.

Accuracy off the tee is crucial on Kasumigaseki’s tree-lined, relatively narrow fairways, so favor position over sheer distance to avoid trouble.

Approach shots must be precise because the greens are relatively small and undulating with fast bentgrass surfaces, making missed greens hard to save par from.

Several greens are guarded by deep Alison-style bunkers, so plan your club selection to avoid those hazards rather than attempting heroic recovery shots.

Wind is usually light for an inland course but can be gusty during fronts, so check conditions each tee and adjust club selection accordingly.

Post-renovation conditioning favors firm lies and quick greens, so low-running approaches can work well and good pace control on putts is essential.
