Although the fairways are wide and mostly flat, the overall length (about 7,078 yards) means you still need distance to hit comfortable approach shots into par 4s and 5s.

Play conservatively off the tee on the tree-lined Kijima (OUT) side because errant drives can be blocked by older trees and leave difficult recovery shots.

On the Nakadake (IN) side watch for volcanic rock features and outcrops that penalize wayward shots, so favour placement over heroics on tighter holes.

The course’s bentgrass greens can run moderately quick and often have subtle breaks, so focus on pace control and reading putts carefully.

Wind from the surrounding Aso peaks can shift and strengthen on exposed holes, so check conditions and adjust club selection and shot trajectory accordingly.
