Shiga prefecture has humid summers with a pronounced June rainy season and occasional typhoons in late summer, generally mild and stable spring and autumn weather, and cool winters with possible morning frost; ridge tops can be breezier than valley areas.

Late spring (April–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the most comfortable temperatures and stable conditions, while the June rainy season, hot humid midsummer and occasional typhoon activity in late summer make those periods less ideal, and winters can bring cold mornings and occasional frost.
