Gold Sano Country Club is an 18-hole golf course located in Sano, Tochigi Prefecture, known for its rare flat terrain in the region. Designed by Masaru Okubo, the course features gently rolling hills on a south-facing slope surrounded by lush greenery. The club offers a scenic experience, including beautiful views from the restaurant’s curved windows. Gold Sano has a rich history, having hosted the prestigious Japan-US University Golf Championship from 1998 to 2003. Many notable professional golfers from Japan and the US who competed there have gone on to successful global careers. The course has a par of 72 and uses bentgrass greens.

At nearly 6,950 yards the course plays long so favour accuracy off the tee to avoid long approaches into bentgrass greens.

Pay close attention to elevation changes on the gently rolling, south-facing slopes because uphill and downhill lies will affect club selection significantly.

Bentgrass greens tend to be true and can run quicker than other surfaces, so read subtle breaks and control your speed on putts.

Tree-lined landing areas and strategically placed hazards reward controlled, well-placed tee shots rather than sheer distance.

Wind can be variable on exposed ridges, so check direction and strength before each tee shot and adjust your aim and club choice accordingly.
